Paris, France – Parisians are celebrating New Year in the capital with a little less champagne and more champagne.
But the celebrations don’t stop there as French President Emmanuel Macron is set to spend the day in a bar, lounging in a sun-drenched patio, and attending an exclusive party at the Louvre.
And his first New Year is just a few days away.
Ahead of the celebrations, Macron, who is scheduled to leave for New York on Monday, will be hosting a party for guests at the prestigious Parisian hotel where he was born and raised.
The French president is expected to take his party on Thursday with a group of French businessmen, diplomats and top politicians.
The party, called the New Year of French Diplomacy, is being organised by the France-Belgium Friendship Society, which is also hosting an event in the French capital.
The Parisian event will be hosted by former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who will be celebrating his first-ever New Year with the likes of former Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault, former French Ambassador to Italy Jacques Chirac and other officials, according to the Parisian newspaper Le Parisien.
Chirac, who was born in France and became a dual citizen, was one of the first foreign leaders to visit the French president.
On Monday, Macron will also host a meeting with French Prime Minister Manuel Valls, who won a landslide election victory last year, according the Paris-based newspaper Le Monde.
Macron, who became president in May, is currently on a three-day visit to Paris.
“It’s the best time to celebrate New Year, the French and European Union, the European Union’s motto and one of our principles,” Macron said in a statement.
“This time is the perfect time for celebrating the New Years Day.”
